Hi, I'm JohnHernandez!

I'm a producer, artist, and engineer hailing from the vibrant streets of Miami, FL. I've been producing music for about 8 years (ever since i was 13) and learning how to mix for the past 3 years (last two being professionally at Full Sail University). I have a Recording Arts Bachelors Degree and am proficient in Logic Pro X and Pro Tools. I also have knowledge and experince working with anaolog gear such as EQ's, compressors, and consoles in general.

Background and Education

I was born and raised in Tamiami, FL and just like every other person in Miami, my family is Cuban. I was raised around croquetas, cuban coffee, and every salsa song imaginable. I graduated from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, an all boys catholic private high school (funny enough originating from Cuba) and then moved to Orlando to pursue mechanical engineering at the University of Central Florida. After one year and finishing with a 3.6 GPA, I transferred to Full Sail University and studied Recording Arts for the next two years to learn professional audio recording, editing, mixing, and mastering.

Early Musical Influence

My family always had music playing around me. Whether it be my dad reminiscing about his glory days as a DJ by playing nothing but deep house, my mom putting me on hip hop groups such as The Black Eyed Peas and A Tribe Called Quest, or my family BBQ's where its nothing but straight Willie Colon and Joe Arroyo on repeat.

On another topic, being from Miami is tough. Especially being cuban and from a school thats alumni are nothing but CEOs, engineers, lawyers, and doctors. You don't really feel any different from one another. There's no pride of self nor any individualism. When i turned 13, I found my new favorite artist: Tyler The Creator. I was obsessed by how he set himself apart from everybody by showcasing who he is by the music he makes and clothes he wears. I wanted to be just like him.

So, I downloaded Garage Band on my school IPad and taught myself how to produce and write. However, I was very under-the-radar about this since I didn't want to be judged or be seen as a 'cringey soundcloud rapper'. My own father didn't even know I produced music until a year into college! But still, I stuck to what I was objectively good at, which was robotics and coding, and went on to study such things at UCF.

What Got Me Pursuing Music

While at UCF, I was thriving. I was getting good grades, I had been learning Logic Pro X, and I was feeling more like an individual than just some random cuban from Miami. However, when it came to mechanical engineering in general, I had 0 passion for it. In that single year in UCF, I didn't feel fulfilled at all, nor did I think I could be a future engineer anymore. Through all this however, one thing was constant: I was making tons of music. So much so, that eventually my dad found out about it. He heard my music, was impressed, and told me to pursue it. So, after that summer, I transferred to Full Sail University.

Full Sail University felt like a breath of fresh air. Not only did I love what I was doing, I was extremely passionate about it! After facing this riggerous school, I started to notice my talent. My friends supported me, my professors were impressed, and my colleagues were geeking out about my work. Soon, I was constantly getting asked to do collaborations with other artists. So much so that my own colleagues started turning to me for advice mixing and producing. After seeing how people reacted to my work and realizing my true potential, I knew who I was and who I wanted to be.

Goals and Aspirations

My goal within the next few years is to just learn. Soak in everything I possibly can in order to reach my fullest potential as a musician and engineer. I want to be interning at studios, being mentored by established people in the industry, taking seminars on mixing, collaborating with artists, whatever I could do to learn and grow.

But really, my biggest goal in life is to effectively and efficiently do what no other person can do: be me. Where my individualism is my job security. I want to produce and mix at the highest levels while showcasing who I am. I want to create things only God and I could ever imagine! Whether I'm a signed artist from a huge label or an executive producer calling all the shots on an album, I want my imprint on the music industry and the world as a whole.
